Orthopedic rehabilitation – We work individually with patients to help them recover from conditions or injuries to the bones and joints, including pre-and post-surgical patients.

Acupuncture – With its roots in traditional Chinese medicine, modern physiotherapists are still discovering the beneficial results of acupuncture treatment on their patients. Those suffering from chronic pain have found they have relief and improved function with this specialized treatment, while others experience renewed energy and a feeling of well-being. Our specially trained and licensed therapist work to reduce pain and restore normal living through the modern depiction of this ancient remedy.

Athletic rehabilitation and customized training – We offer a full range of rehabilitation services to help injured professional and recreational athletes return to their normal level of activity. Our holistic approach is also geared to ensuring that the injuries do not reoccur. At the same time, we offer long-term customized athletic training for non-injured athletes who want to improve their total conditioning, power, and flexibility. Our customized and sport-specific programs can help you improve your performance in the long term.

Custom bracing (ACL and shoulders) – Shelburne Physiotherapy offers convenient and onsite custom bracing to clients suffering from joint pain in areas such as the shoulders and knees. A conservative treatment option that helps people return to activity, bracing is used by many professional and recreational athletes as well as general clients.  It is particularly effective for those suffering from an injury to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) of the knee.

Custom fit orthotics- Custom orthotics re devices that change or modify how your foot functions. They are effective in helping to relieve foot pain and restore mobility. Our staff is trained to use custom fit orthotics to treat a variety of biomechanical foot disorders. Each orthotic is custom-crafted to meet the individual needs and conditions impacting the patient.

Gait analysis – When walking (gait) and balance disorders impact our lives, our entire ability to function independently is challenged. Our trained physiotherapists will work with you to conduct an in-depth analyses to determine the cause of gait and balance disorders, and to create customized treatments to correct weaknesses, spasticity or balance issues.

Geriatrics – Geriatric physiotherapy is aimed at the specific needs of senior clients. Because our bodies change physiologically as they age, trained physiotherapists must be aware of this and how it can impact the patient’s mobility and functionality. Physiotherapy is effective in maintaining movement and independence in a patient’s advanced years.

Kinesiotaping – Kinesiotaping is a definitive taping technique designed to rehabilitate injured patients and facilitate the body’s natural healing process. At the same time, it provides support and stability to aching muscles and joints without restricting movement. It is safe for patients of all ages and has been used effectively to treat a variety of neuromuscular and neurological conditions. Kinesiotaping relieves pain and helps improve lymphatic drainage.

Laser therapy – Low level laser therapy has been found to be effective in reducing inflammation and pain in many patients by non-thermal absorption of photons by cells. It is used mainly on such painful conditions as bursitis, tendonitis, plantar fasciitis and certain sports injuries.

Lower extremities mechanics – Achilles’’ tendinitis, patellar tendinitis and other instabilities in the ankle, knee, foot and hip can impact our quality of life. Often one injury leads to others as we compensate for pain by overworking another area that isn’t hurting. After a thorough evaluation of the source of your lower extremity pain, we will work to devise a customized treatment plan to reduce pain and inflammation and get you back to your normal walking as quickly as possible.

Massage therapy – Our registered massage therapists can relieve pain and promote healing through various modalities of massage therapy, which is essentially the manipulation of both superficial and deeper muscle layers and connective tissue. We provide soft tissue massage, manual stretching and joint mobilization. Each type of massage therapy prescribed is designed to evoke a particular result. For example, soft tissue massage focuses on the muscles and is often successful in reducing chronic pain. Relaxation massages involves relieving muscle tension, which often has a therapeutic effect on stress.

Neurological rehabilitation as related to stroke patients and traumatic brain injury – Our trained physiotherapists work with stroke and traumatic brain injury patients to help restore and re-learn functions needed for independent living. We work particularly with those suffering from strokes, head injuries, amputations, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease and muscular dystrophy to find ways to restore movement and activity.

Our teams of professionals are trained to identify special childhood conditions and devise specific treatment plans to improve the child’s overall health and wellbeing. We can assist with growing disorders, repetitive strains, gait abnormalities and other conditions.
